A college student was murdered after rape allegedly by her relative in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram early today.
The suspect also stabbed the victim's grandparents as they witnessed the incident around 2:00am. They were admitted to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital, police said.
The body was sent to the hospital's morgue for autopsy, said Nayan Chandra Acharya, a sub-inspector of Chandanaish Police Station.
The suspect, who was the son of the victim's grandmother's sister, went into hiding soon after the incident, the SI said.
Quoting witnesses, SI Nayan said, "The victim came to her grandmother's residence to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr a few days ago. Nazim visited the house last night. When the girl went to the washroom at midnight, he raped and killed her."
When the grandparents witnessed the incident, the suspect also stabbed them, the SI said.
After initial investigation, law enforcers suspected that the victim was strangled to death after rape, the police official said.
He further said, "We found the body inside the bathroom with her scarf stuffed in her mouth. We recovered the body around 3:00am and sent it for autopsy."
"It is not a case of robbery, as nothing was looted from the residence, but the suspect fled the scene. We are trying to arrest him," added the police officer.
No case was filed till filing this report.
