15 policemen injured in Lalmonirhat road crash

At least 15 policemen were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a police van in Lalmonirhat early today.

The accident occurred around 6:00am in the Haribhanga area of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway, police said.

The injured were first taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital. Of them, six were later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while three others received primary care.

Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nurnabi confirmed the incident, adding that the truck driver, Sohan Islam, has been detained.

Police are reviewing his driving licence and other documents. A case is being prepared against him, the OC added.

The policemen referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital are SI Rafiqul Islam, ASI Mahesh Chandra, and Constables Saiful Islam, Manik Sarkar, Mozammel Haque, and Sabuj Islam.

Those undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital are Constables Nayan Islam, Zafar Ali, Shahadat Hossain, Lutfar Rahman, Ilias Mia, and Mostafa Mia. SI Abu Bakkar, Nayek Rahinuli Isrash, and Nayek Shakhawat Hossain received primary treatment and were later released.

According to police and locals, the police van, carrying 15 policemen, was on its way to the Sindurmati Tirthadham Mela from Lalmonirhat Police Lines when the speeding truck, coming from the opposite direction, hit the van near Haribhanga Mazar area.
