A teenage motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a sand-laden truck in Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur yesterday, triggering outrage among locals who set the truck on fire.
Hamza, 19, son of Sumon Ali, was from Dwipnagar village in Kaharol upazila.
According to locals, Hamza was returning home on his motorcycle when the accident occurred around 2:30pm at Gar Mallikpur village along the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway.
A speeding truck loaded with sand struck his motorcycle from behind, killing him on the spot.
A team from the Kaharol Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene but faced resistance from protesters, preventing them from dousing the flames.
Police from Kaharol Police Station and Doshmile Highway Police arrived to control the situation.
Traffic on the Panchagarh-Dinajpur highway remained suspended until the filing of this report yesterday, confirmed Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of Doshmile Highway Police Station.
