The name of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 has been changed to Bangladesh Satellite-1.
The Posts and Telecommunications Division issued a directive to Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) to take the necessary steps regarding this change.
Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, deputy secretary at the Posts and Telecommunications Division, confirmed the decision today.
According to the directive, the decision to rename the satellite was made at the Advisory Council meeting, where the proposal was approved by the Chief Adviser.
With this change, the country's first geostationary communication satellite will now officially be known as Bangladesh Satellite-1.
A BSCL officer stated that steps will be taken to update the satellite's name in registrations with various international organisations, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
