Posts and photos vanish from Facebook’s search option

Facebook users across the world are currently unable to search for posts and photos in the platform, after what appears to be a widespread outage affecting the platform's search function, which began earlier this week.

The disruption has left trillions of pieces of content unsearchable.

Facebook has not officially issued any statements regarding the issue. So, it is not clear if this is part of a new update or a temporary glitch in the social media platform.

Henk van Ess, an online researcher, has dubbed the incident as 'The Great Facebook Darkness of 2025'. In his online platform, Digital Digging, the researcher suggested an online tool called 'Whopostedwhat' to find previous Facebook posts for now. He mentioned that while 'Whopostedwhat' works for text and video, there is currently no alternative way to search photos, which remain unsearchable during the outage.
