A woman was hacked to death by miscreants at Sadar upazila in Noakhali district on Monday night.
The incident took place around 9 pm at Jalyal village of ward number 9 under Binodpur union. A blood-stained knife was recovered from the scene.
The victim was Taslima Begum, 60, a resident of Jalyal village. Her son Ziaul Haque Inu is the general secretary of Ward number 5 BNP of Noakhali Municipality.
Police have arrested a suspect named Tarek, 35, in the incident.
Police and locals said that the victim, Taslima Begum Rozi, used to live alone in her father's house at Jalyal village. On Monday night, she was offering Isha prayers with the door of her room open. At that time, someone came and hit her on the head and left. Later, family members found her lying in a bloody state in the bed and rushed her to Noakhali General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ibrahim said that on information, several teams of Sudharam Police Station and District Detective Branch reached the spot. A young man, the main suspect in the incident, is being detained and questioned. The body has been sent to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy.
