A man and his wife died after being electrocuted in Shariatpur's Jajira on Saturday morning.
The dead were Idris Khan, 65, and his wife Shefali Begum, 60, residents of Baliakandi area of the upazila.
According to police and locals, Idris Khan was recently cultivating maize in a field near his house. He installed an electric trap through a wire to protect the crop from wild animals, especially porcupines.
Idris Khan and his wife went there on Saturday morning without disconnecting the electric connection before entering the field. Idris Khan was first electrocuted and fell to the ground. While trying to protect her husband, Shefali Begum was also electrocuted and died on the spot.
Padma Bridge South Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nakib Akram Hossain confirmed it.
