Collected PhotoPrime Minister Tarique Rahman returned home on Sunday after completing a five-day official visit to the United States. He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:40 AM. He was accompanied by his spouse, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and other members of his entourage.
Earlier, at 11:30 PM local time on Saturday, the Prime Minister departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on an Emirates flight bound for Dhaka via Dubai.
During his visit, the Prime Minister delivered his address to the United Nations General Assembly in Bengali for the first time.
In his speech on September 24, he articulated Bangladesh’s positions and priorities on global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, humanitarian crises, economic cooperation, and the Rohingya crisis.
In his address, he reaffirmed Bangladesh’s support for UN initiatives aimed at establishing global humanity and peace, emphasizing dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual cooperation for conflict resolution.
He also expressed the government's commitment to building a prosperous, self-reliant, and welfare-oriented democratic Bangladesh through political and economic empowerment of the people and by ensuring equal opportunities for all.
To this end, he highlighted the government's "Recovery, Restoration, and Reconstruction" (Three-R) strategy.
Addressing the Rohingya crisis, the Prime Minister stated that safe and dignified repatriation is the only lasting solution to this protracted crisis. He urged the international community for stronger cooperation in creating a favorable environment for voluntary repatriation.
On the sidelines of his New York visit, the Prime Minister held separate meetings with Julie Bishop, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, and UNHCR High Commissioner Barham Salih.
Additionally, during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, discussions focused on expanding trade and investment and exploring new areas of economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Turkey.
He also held individual meetings with Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Maldivian Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latif, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, and Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé.
At the beginning of his trip on September 22, the Prime Minister and his wife attended a welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres for world leaders and their spouses.
They later joined a reception hosted by the U.S. President in honor of the leaders participating in the UN General Assembly.
