
The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced seven accused, including banned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July Mass Uprising.
The other convicts are Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, and Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Wali Asif Enan. All seven convicts are currently absconding.
A three-member bench of International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, pronounced the verdict at around 12:15pm on Tuesday (15 September).
The other members of the bench are Justice Md Manzurul Bashid and Justice Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
