Discussions are underway regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to India, although the date and schedule of the trip have yet to be finalised, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said on Saturday.
However, he ruled out the possibility of the Prime Minister visiting India before attending the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session.
The state minister made the remarks while speaking with leaders of television journalists at a hotel in Sylhet on Saturday morning.
Humaiun Kobir said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would attend the UN General Assembly carrying the message of the progress and advancement of the new Bangladesh.
“There is a possibility that the Prime Minister will meet US President Donald Trump there,” he said.
The state minister also spoke about Bangladesh’s possible participation in the Mecca Pact, saying that joining the agreement would not be unusual for the country.
“Bangladesh will go wherever necessary in the interest of the nation,” he said.
Referring to the purchase of Boeing aircraft from the United States, Humaiun Kobir said the decision was driven by necessity.
“Aircraft are being purchased because there is a need for them. More will be purchased in the future if necessary,” he added.
