2 killed, 3 injured in Gazipur road accident

Two people were killed and three others injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a covered van in Kaliakair of Gazipur on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 11:30am in the Kanchanpur Chairman Bari area on the Kaliakair-Fulbaria-Mawna regional road.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Witnesses said that the auto-rickshaw, carrying four passengers besides its driver was heading towards Mawna intersection from Kaliakair in the morning.

When it reached the Kanchanpur area, it collided head-on with the covered van coming from the opposite direction.

The driver and four passengers of the auto-rickshaw sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared two of them dead, said police.

Kaliakair police officer-in-charge Shahidul Islam confirmed the deaths and said that police were working to identify the deceased.

Legal proceedings in connection with the accident were underway, he added.
