Collected PhotoThe government is exploring alternative sources to address Bangladesh's energy crisis and could import fuel from Africa if necessary, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam said on Saturday.
She made the remarks at an event titled "Upcoming UN Conference and Bangladesh Branding" on Saturday morning.
Shama said the government was also working to diversify the country's export products beyond the ready-made garment sector, including by expanding jute-based products.
"We have returned to a democratic process after 17 years of oppression and misrule. A democratic government has been established in Bangladesh, and this will be the first time our Prime Minister attends the UN General Assembly following its formation," she said.
The state minister said the UN General Assembly would provide a major opportunity to showcase Bangladesh, with "Bangladesh First" as the guiding theme.
She said the platform would be used to highlight national interests, Bangladesh's potential and opportunities for economic advancement.
