At least 15 people were injured in an accident involving four vehicles on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sreenagar, Munshiganj, this morning due to dense fog.

The identities of the injured could not be confirmed immediately. They were rescued and provided treatment at local hospitals, Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Hassara highway police outpost, said quoting the fire service.

The accident occurred around 7:30am in Kamarkhola area on the Dhaka-bound lane when a lorry rear-ended a stationary pickup van in dense fog. At that moment, two buses approaching from behind in the same lane collided sequentially.

As a result, the front sections of both passenger buses and the covered van were severely damaged. Rescuers had to cut through the wreckage to pull out the injured before transporting them to hospital.

One vehicle fled the scene following the accident, the OC said.

He added that the incident was likely caused by dense fog.

The traffic on the expressway has now returned to normal.
