Design by: THE FINANCIAL POPSTThe Election Commission (EC) issued a gazette on Sunday revising the boundaries of 11 parliamentary constituencies to incorporate newly formed upazilas and union parishads.
EC officials said the changes were administrative and would not result in any practical change to the constituencies.
The constituencies are Thakurgaon-1, Bogura-2, Pirojpur-1, Mymensingh-10, Brahmanbaria-3 and 4, Cumilla-3, Lakshmipur-2 and 3, Chattogram-2 and Cox’s Bazar-1.
Thakurgaon-1, the seat vacated by President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, previously comprised Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. The newly formed Ruhia and Bhulli upazilas have now been included in the constituency. The two upazilas were approved by the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) in May.
Mokamtola Upazila has been added to Bogura-2, which previously comprised Shibganj. South Gafargaon Upazila has been added to Mymensingh-10 alongside Gafargaon Upazila. NICAR approved Mokamtola and South Gafargaon in May and July, respectively.
Barishal Union Parishad under Akhaura Upazila has been included in Brahmanbaria-3, while Brahmanbaria-4 has been formed without the union. The new Barishal union was approved in May after six villages were separated from Basudeb Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila and incorporated into Akhaura.
Bangra Upazila has been added to Cumilla-3 alongside Muradnagar Upazila. NICAR approved the new upazila in July.
In Chattogram-2, the newly formed North Fatikchhari Upazila has been included alongside Fatikchhari Upazila. Cox’s Bazar-1 now includes the newly formed Mataramuhuri Upazila.
