Metro rail authorities suspended operations at three stations—Mirpur-10, Mirpur-11, and Pallabi—on Sunday, November 1, following violent clashes between police and protesting readymade garment (RMG) workers in the capital.
The three stations have remained closed since the conflict escalated around 12:00 PM, MRT Police Inspector (Operations) Mohsin Sheikh confirmed.
The closure followed intense clashes that broke out when law enforcement attempted to clear several thoroughfares blocked since 9:00 AM by hundreds of garment workers demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.
A series of chases and counter-chases ensued as police used tear gas shells and baton charges to disperse the crowd, while protesters and law enforcers exchanged brick chips.
The widespread road blockades brought vehicular traffic to a complete standstill across Mirpur, causing severe disruption for commuters and office-goers, many of whom were forced to walk to their destinations.
