KM Enayetul Karim, father of former Bangladesh Air Force flight lieutenant Tahsif Souri, has filed a murder case against unidentified persons over his son’s death.

Habib, officer-in-charge of Uttarkhan police station, confirmed the matter to the media on Saturday morning. He said Tahsif’s father had filed the case as the complainant, naming no specific accused.

Tahsif went missing on the evening of October 27 after leaving his home in Sector 18 of Uttara in the capital. According to his family, he left after receiving a call from a junior friend, Deep.

CCTV footage from around 6:30pm showed Tahsif with Deep in front of a garage at the Rajuk Uttara Apartment Project. After shaking hands, the two left the area on separate motorcycles.

Deep later told the family that Tahsif’s motorcycle had developed a problem, prompting them to visit a workshop. After the motorcycle was repaired, they had a meal together before going their separate ways. Investigators subsequently began examining their movements and communications that night.

At around 4:30pm on October 28, Tongi River Police Outpost personnel recovered a body from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat after receiving information that someone was floating in the river.

Tahsif was identified through the wristwatch he was wearing and an iPhone found in his pocket. An autopsy was conducted at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital the following day.

After funeral prayers at the Central Jame Mosque in Sector 18, Uttara, he was buried at a graveyard in Sector 12.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officials took Deep into custody from a house on Babar Road in Mohammadpur late on Thursday night.

On Friday, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) took him to the Mazar Bosti area beside the Turag River in Tongi. Acting on information he provided, investigators recovered a black Suzuki Gixxer 150 motorcycle without a number plate from the area.

During questioning, Deep claimed that he and Tahsif had gone to an area near the Turag River on the night of the incident. He said some people chased them and that Tahsif jumped into the river.

However, Deep’s account could not be independently verified. The PBI examined inconsistencies in his statement and handed over the information and evidence collected at the scene to the River Police. Deep was also subsequently handed over to the River Police.

Tahsif’s father had expressed suspicions of murder following his son’s death. He said Tahsif knew how to swim and questioned the claim that he had died after jumping into the river.
