Symbolic PhotoEid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and death anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad, will be observed across the country today with due religious solemnity.
On the day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, the Prophet was born in Makkah of Saudi Arabia. He also passed away on the same day in 632.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and prime minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday issued separate messages, greeting the people of Bangladesh and the Muslims across the world on the eve of the day.
In his message, the president said that the Prophet emerged as a messenger of welfare and salvation for all humanity in this world and the hereafter.
He called upon all to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of the Prophet, shun hatred, hostility, division and injustice, and pledge to build a just society and state based on peace, harmony, equality and humanity.
Tarique, in his message, observed that the world was currently facing various crises, including war, conflict, violence, discrimination, intolerance and moral degradation, which were disrupting peace, security and normal life.
‘At such a time, the teachings of the Holy Prophet on peace, justice, compassion, forgiveness and humanity are very relevant,’ he said.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has strengthened security measures across the capital, while the Rapid Action Battalion has taken comprehensive measures across the country to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
The day is a public holiday.
Special prayers will be offered at mosques across the country.
A month-long Islamic book fair will be held at the South Plaza of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital.
Marking the day, Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will broadcast special programmes, while different national dailies will publish supplements highlighting its significance.
