Bangladesh Bank has set a Tk60,000 crore target for agricultural and rural loan disbursement in FY27, 53.85% higher than the Tk39,000 crore target set for FY26.
Of the total target, Tk20,495 crore has been allocated to state-owned commercial and specialised banks, while private and foreign commercial banks have been given a target of Tk39,505 crore.
Deputy Governor Habibur Rahman and Executive Director Arif Hossain Khan disclosed the figures today (17 August) following a meeting between the Bangladesh Bank governor and managing directors of all banks.
Habibur Rahman said the governor had instructed banks to ensure that agricultural loans reach genuine farmers and that there is no irregularity in the disbursement process.
He said a large portion of agricultural loans was previously disbursed by Bangladesh Krishi Bank. However, banks have now been urged to increase the contribution of commercial banks to agricultural lending.
