The Election Commission (EC) has declared the nomination paper of BNP-backed presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir valid.
Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin, acting as the returning officer, scrutinized the nomination paper at the Election Commission building on Sunday (August 16).
The BNP announced its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the party’s candidate for the country’s 23rd presidential election on Thursday (August 13).
The EC also declared the nomination paper of Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed, the presidential candidate backed by an 11-party alliance, valid.
The 23rd presidential election is scheduled to be held on August 20, while the deadline for withdrawing candidacy is 4pm on August 18.
