BNP Nominates Mirza Fakhrul for Presidential Election

The ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced its candidate for the country’s 23rd presidential election. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been nominated as the party’s presidential candidate.

The announcement was made today, Thursday, following a meeting of the BNP Standing Committee.

The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the presidential election is 4:00 pm today, Thursday (August 13). According to the Election Commission’s schedule, nomination papers can be submitted from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Meanwhile, the 11-party alliance in the opposition has nominated Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmad as its candidate.

At around 11:45 am today, leaders of the alliance submitted the nomination papers to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, voting for the new president will be held on August 20. Following the submission of nomination papers today, the papers will be scrutinized on August 16. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is August 18.

A candidate may submit more than one nomination paper, but only one will be finalized following scrutiny.

Voting will take place on August 20 in the Parliament session chamber.
