The online e-Bailbond system has been launched in 12 more districts, bringing the total number of districts covered by the service to 28.

The new system is aimed at modernising the judicial system and reducing the difficulties faced by people seeking legal services. It will make the release process for people granted bail faster and easier, while reducing the time and hassle involved in submitting bail bonds.

Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman inaugurated the system in the presence of officials at a programme held at the ministry’s conference room in Thursday morning.

The minister said the government is taking various timely measures to reduce harassment of people seeking justice and to ensure the rule of law, justice and good governance. He said the e-Bailbond system is an important part of these efforts.

He said under the existing system, submitting and completing a bail bond required 12 steps. The new online system has reduced this to just two steps.

Lawyers will be able to submit bail bonds online using smartphones from their chambers or any other location. Once submitted, the receipt of the bond will be confirmed instantly through a one-time password.

The minister said the new system will particularly reduce the suffering of people granted bail and their family members. It will also reduce the need to repeatedly visit prisons, magistrate courts and district judge courts.
