The prices of gold in the country have increased by Tk 1,633 per bhori on Tuesday after a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market, with the rate of 22-carat gold reaching Tk 221,441 per bhori, including VAT.
The new prices came into effect from 10:30 am, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) said in a statement.
Under the revised rates, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold jewellery now costs Tk 221,441, up from Tk 219,808.
The price of 21-carat gold jewellery has been raised by Tk 1,574 to Tk 211,468 per bhori, while 18-carat gold jewellery now costs Tk 181,608 per bhori after an increase of Tk 1,341.
The price of jewellery made under the traditional method has also been increased by Tk 1,050 to Tk 148,366 per bhori.
BAJUS said the latest revision was prompted by an increase in the price of pure gold in the domestic market. The decision was taken at a meeting of the association's Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring and announced in a notification signed by its chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen.
The increase comes just a week after BAJUS cut gold prices by Tk 2,158 per bhori on July 14.
The association also kept the prices of silver jewellery unchanged at Tk 4,607 per bhori for 22-carat, Tk 4,374 for 21-carat, Tk 3,791 for 18-carat, and Tk 2,858 per bhori for jewellery made under the traditional method, all inclusive of VAT.
