Two More Deaths Reported from Measles Symptoms Nationwide; 1,069 New Cases Identified in 24 Hours
In the past 24 hours, two children have died from measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh, while 1,069 new cases of measles and related symptoms have been detected. According to the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), this brings the total number of deaths from measles and suspected measles cases to 453 over the last two months.
The DGHS report, released on Saturday (May 16), stated that both deaths occurred in Sylhet Division. Since March 15, a total of 74 confirmed measles deaths have been recorded, alongside 379 suspected measles-related deaths, making a combined total of 453 child fatalities.
The report further noted that since March 15, measles symptoms have appeared in 56,572 children nationwide. Of these, 41,028 were admitted to hospitals, while 36,645 have since recovered and been discharged. During the same period, 7,524 children have been confirmed as measles patients.
