4 killed, 25 injured in Ctg road crash

At least four people were killed and 25 others injured after two buses collided head-on on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway under Lohagara upazila in the district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Rehena Begum, 60, wife of Badiul Alam of Pachuria area in Patiya upazila, Naeem Jihad, 25, and Md Naeem, 27, of Jhenaidah, and Monir, 20, of Bhola districts.

According to eyewitnesses and police, two buses belonging to Marsa Paribahan were travelling to and from Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

The accident occurred on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway near Four Season Restaurant in Chunati area of Lohagara around 10:45am.

After the collision, one of the buses lost control and crashed into a roadside tree while the other skidded off the road and rammed into a shop.

The both buses got damaged badly in the accident leaving dozens of passengers injured.

Chunati Police Outpost In-Charge Abbas Ali said around 30 passengers were injured in the accident. Fire service personnel, police and locals rescued the victims and sent to different hospitals.

Lohagara Fire Service Station Officer Firoz Khan said rescuers recovered the body of Rehena Begum from the spot.

“Six critically injured passengers were taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where three of them, including Naeem Jihad, died,” he said.

Satkania Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Ariful Islam Siddiqi told that reckless driving was primarily suspected as the cause behind the accident.

“Legal action over the incident is under process,” he added.
