A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Sudip Chakroborthy, an associate professor of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Dhaka University, on a three-day remand in a case filed over the alleged abetment to suicide of student Munira Mahjabin Mimo.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monjurul Islam passed the order after the investigating officer of the case and Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector Kazi Iqbal Hossain sought a seven-day remand, State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed.
On 26 April, police recovered the hanging body of Mimo, 26, a student of the same department at DU and a theatre activist, from her residence in Badda.
Police detained Sudip on allegations of abetment to suicide.
Mimo’s father filed a case against him with the police station, while Sudip was subsequently shown arrested in the case.
