Recommended candidates for primary assistant teacher posts staged fresh protests in Shahbag on Sunday, demanding the issuance of their appointment letters.
The protesters brought out a procession from in front of the Bangladesh National Museum around 10:00am. Police stopped them from moving onto the main road, prompting the demonstrators to take up position in front of the museum and continue their protest.
At the time of filing this report, protesters and police remained in a face-off, with the demonstration ongoing.
Chanting slogans such as “No more promises, we want implementation”, “We want to return to classrooms—students are waiting”, and “We will not bear the burden of delay—we will not leave without appointment letters”, the demonstrators pressed their demands.
They said they had been recommended for recruitment around two and a half months ago but had yet to receive appointment letters or any official communication.
The protesters alleged that their appointment letters were being withheld and vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met.
