An initiative has been launched to determine new colours for the Bangladesh Police uniforms.
According to the new decision, it has been proposed to bring back the combination of dark blue and light olive colours in the police uniforms.
Sources said that since the supply of uniforms is based on availability, there will be no additional financial cost to the government for this change. The concerned authorities have been requested to take necessary action immediately in this regard.
To this end, a proposal to amend the "Police Dress Rules, 2025" has been sent to the Home Ministry. The proposal was recently announced in a letter signed by the Additional DIG of the Logistics Branch of the Police Headquarters, Md Sarwar Jahan.
The letter said that as per the SRO issued earlier, the shirts of the police were changed from dark grey and pants from dark blue to "iron colour" and pants to "coffee colour". However, this change met with adverse reactions among the police members at the field level. There was a wide discussion within and outside the force regarding this. Later, senior police officials reviewed samples of different colours and selected new colours in consultation with the Home Ministry.
According to the new proposal, the shirt colour of all Metropolitan Police officers will be light olive. However, the shirt colour of other police units except APBn, SPBn, SB, CID and RAB will be dark blue. In both cases, the colour of the pants has been fixed as "TC Twill Khaki".
To implement this change, several amendments to the "Police Dress Rules, 2025" have been proposed. A draft has already been sent for notification.
