A Railway Police constable has been found dead with a gunshot wound while on duty at the Railway Police Lines in Khulna.
The deceased, identified as Samrat Biswas, was son of Shailen Biswas from Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj.
He was posted at the magazine guard duty area when the incident took place around 4:30am on Saturday (April 18).
Police and law enforcement teams, including the Superintendent of Railway Police in Khulna, Ahmed Mainul Hasan, along with officers from Sonadanga Police Station and Khulna Metropolitan Police, rushed to the scene after the incident was reported.
Officials said the matter is under investigation.
According to police sources, the constable’s wife is also serving in the police force and is currently posted in Satkhira district.
SP Ahmed Mainul Hasan said Samrat Biswas had joined the force on November 3 last year and was considered disciplined in service. His duty shift was from 4:00am to 6:00pm.
He added that preliminary information suggests the constable allegedly used his service rifle to shoot himself, resulting in his death on the spot. The family has been informed, and a detailed investigation is underway.
