Two web films have been released on local OTT platforms to mark the Bengali New Year, featuring performances by Pritom Hasan, Xefer Rahman, Safa Kabir, and Partho Sheikh, among others.

'Tumi Ami Shudhu'

Released on Pohela Boishakh on OTT platform Binge, “Tumi Ami Shudhu” marks the first on-screen pairing of Pritom Hasan and Xefer Rahman. The web film is directed by Shihab Shaheen, who has also written the story and screenplay.

While this is their first collaboration in a web film, both actors have previously worked with the director. Pritom appeared in Shaheen’s web film “Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya” and the web series “Cactus”, while Xefer was seen in “Myself Allen Swapan 2”.

The cast also includes Manas Bandyopadhyay, Samu Chowdhury, Munmun Ahmed, and Abdullah Al Sentu, among others.

'Cha Gorom'

Another web film, “Cha Gorom”, was released on Chorki on April 14. Directed by Shankha Dasgupta, the film stars Safa Kabir, Partho Sheikh, Rezwan Pervez, and Sarah Jabin Aditi, alongside A K Azad Setu. The story and screenplay have been written by Saifullah Riyad.

The film explores the daily lives, rights, and living conditions of tea plantation workers. Director Shankha Dasgupta said the intention was to move beyond the conventional use of tea gardens as mere backdrops.

“In Bangladesh, tea gardens are often used only as a backdrop. This time, we wanted to go inside and portray the lives and work of the people there. We tried to capture not just the beauty, but the reality,” he said.

Actor Safa Kabir said her interest in the project was driven largely by the director’s distinctive storytelling approach. “The story highlights a part of our society that we often overlook,” she said.

Partho Sheikh added that the project offered him a valuable opportunity, noting that he had not previously worked with the director in fiction.
