Dhaka’s Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School Grade 10 student Md. Azmain Iktidar Shahed has brought notable international recognition to Bangladesh by achieving outstanding results at the Brilliant International Competition (BIC) 2026, held under the International Science Olympiad Contest (ISOC) and International Brilliant Minds Olympiad (IBMO) 2026.
Azmain was the only Bangladeshi participant who took part in both the preliminary and final rounds of the competition.
He earned a Gold Medal in English Level-2, a Silver Medal in Science Level-2, and an Honourable Mention-2 based on overall performance.
The preliminary round was held on April 19, while the final round took place on April 30. From a large pool of participants in the preliminary stage, only the top 100 students qualified for the final round. Azmain secured a position among the top three in the preliminary round, earning qualification for the finals. In the final round, he scored 900 marks in the English Level-2 category, securing a Gold Medal. He also scored 900 marks in Science Level-2, earning a Silver Medal. Based on his overall performance across categories, he was awarded an Honourable Mention-2.
Expressing his reaction, Azmain said he felt proud and honoured to represent Bangladesh alone in the international competition and bring glory to the country. He credited his success to the continuous support, guidance, and inspiration of his family, teachers, and well-wishers. He also expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and sought everyone’s prayers and good wishes so that he can continue to achieve greater success in the future and uphold Bangladesh’s honour on the international stage.
It is worth mentioning that IBMO is a prestigious international academic Olympiad organized by Pattern Indonesia. The competition aims to develop students’ critical thinking, academic excellence, creative problem-solving abilities, and global competitiveness. Participants gain valuable international recognition while showcasing their talent and merit on a global platform. The Olympiad is associated with the International STEM Olympiad, the European Olympiad, and the International Science Olympiad Federation (ISOF), which further enhances its global credibility and prestige.
