A winter clothing distribution program was held in Sreemangal seeking eternal peace (maghfirat) for the soul of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Under the humanitarian initiative, blankets were distributed among cold-stricken people.
The program took place on Sunday morning (18 January 2026) at the Children’s Park ground in Sreemangal town.
The initiative was organized on behalf of Sarfaraz Ahmed Sarfu, former Sports Affairs Secretary of UK BNP and Coordinator of the Arafat Rahman Koko Memorial Trust. Nearly two thousand underprivileged and helpless people from different wards of Sreemangal town and surrounding areas received blankets at the event.
Alongside the distribution, a milad and doa mahfil was held seeking eternal peace for the souls of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, and late Arafat Rahman Koko. The milad was conducted by Hafez Maulana Abdul Quddus Nizami, Imam and Khatib of Sreemangal Town Jame Mosque.
BNP Central Executive Committee member and BNP’s nominated candidate for the Sreemangal–Kamalganj constituency, Alhaj Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury (Haji Mujib), attended the program as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “BNP has always stood by the people and will continue to do so. National leader Begum Khaleda Zia devoted her entire life to the welfare of the people. Following her ideals and seeking eternal peace for her soul, we are carrying out humanitarian activities.”
He further added, “In the current situation, people’s hardships have increased. Standing beside cold-stricken and helpless people is our moral responsibility. Such initiatives help foster humanitarian values in society.”
Others present at the program included Syed Salauddin, member of the Sreemangal Municipal BNP convening committee; Niamul Haque Tarfder, Vice President of Moulvibazar District Jubo Dal; Kalam Ahmed, Senior Joint Convener of Sreemangal Municipal Jubo Dal; Mobarak Hasan Luppa, Vice President of Moulvibazar District Chhatra Dal; Sami Mahmud Chowdhury; Jahirul Islam Jahid, Convener of Sreemangal Municipal Chhatra Dal; Jahed Ali, member of the municipal unit of JASAS; and leaders and activists from BNP and its affiliated and associate organizations.
The blanket recipients expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the humanitarian initiative, saying that receiving blankets during the cold season brought them some relief.
The organizers said that such social and humanitarian programs would continue in the future under the guidance of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
