Police uniform colours change again

The government has changed the colour scheme of the police uniform again following the amendment of the police dress code.

The force is getting back the immediate past colours of its shirt worn during the Awami League regime—light olive for metropolitan police units, while deep blue for the district-level and other police units.

Pants for all units would be khaki, which were navy blue during the AL regime.

Police Headquarters issued a gazette signed by inspector general of police Ali Hossain Fakir on Thursday, stating that the colour changes were to be brought through amending the Police Dress Rules, 2025 under the Police Act, 1861.

No changes would be brought to the uniforms of the Armed Police Battalion, Special Security and Protection Battalion, Special Branch, Criminal Investigation Department, and the Rapid Action Battalion.

The Muhammad Yunus-led interim government introduced new uniforms for the police, Rapid Action Battalion, and Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party in January last year, drawing criticisms over the colour scheme.

The interim government changed the longstanding blue-green colour with the iron grey on a limited scale.

In late march, home minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the government would soon decide on restoring one of the uniforms previously used by the police, as members of the force were dissatisfied with the current uniform.
