No force on earth can thwart the 13th National Parliamentary Election, said Shafikul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
He made the remarks on Friday (12 December) at around 11:30 am while speaking to journalists after visiting Sureshwar Darbar Sharif in Naria, Shariatpur.
“The people of Bangladesh are eagerly waiting for the election,” he said. Issuing a warning, he added, “Anyone who tries to take the law into their own hands or destabilize law and order will be dealt with strictly. Those who attempt to sabotage the election with unethical demands will also face stern action from the government.”
In response to a question about the participation of the banned organisation Awami League in the election, the Press Secretary said, “Those who represent the fallen autocratic regime have withdrawn themselves from the election. They claimed they would engage in peaceful political movement, but instead they and their supporters took to the streets with rifles and pistols, killing young boys.”
He further said, “They thought that because people remained silent for 15 years after so many killings, they would stay silent for another 15 years. But now, they have isolated themselves.”
