Several hundred protesters blocked Dhaka's Shahbagh intersection this afternoon, demanding the construction of a bridge connecting Bhola and Barishal districts to ease travel.
Around 3:45pm, they occupied the intersection and brought traffic to a complete halt in all directions, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur told The Daily Star.
Most of the demonstrators were either from Bhola or residents of Dhaka who are originally from the district.
After Juma prayers, several groups brought out processions from different parts of the city and gathered at Shahbagh.
Police placed a barricade on the road towards Bangla Motor area as a precaution to prevent any untoward incident.
The demonstration was ongoing at the time of filing this report around 4:45pm.
