Shamaruh Mirza, a distinguished medical scientist and daughter of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has issued an emotional statement on her verified social media page, condemning the propaganda, misinformation, and rumours being spread against her father.
In the post, she highlighted her father's long-standing political transparency and integrity, stating that despite enduring 15 years of imprisonment, persecution, lawsuits, and attacks, certain individuals have recently become active in spreading falsehoods about him. She noted that many of those involved in the smear campaign have either the "scales" election symbol or images of Sheikh Mujib displayed on their profiles.
Referring to her father's political career, she emphasized that during his tenure as a minister, he implemented various development projects for the welfare of the region, including the operational launch of the Barendra Project. She alleged that a vested group is now intentionally ignoring these contributions and is instead circulating fabricated, baseless, and misleading rumours to confuse the public.
Following her post, people from various professional backgrounds in Thakurgaon expressed their support for Shamaruh Mirza in the comment section and voiced their protest against the spread of misinformation. Many social media users from Mirza Fakhrul's constituency have also continued to share her post on their timelines as a form of resistance.
Veteran journalist Abdul Latif of Thakurgaon, speaking about her statement, remarked that ahead of the upcoming national election, certain groups are deliberately spreading propaganda in an attempt to gain political advantage. He urged citizens to remain alert to such tactics.
In a joint statement, Satya Prasad Ghosh Nandan, president of the Thakurgaon Citizens' Development Forum, and its general secretary Shariful Karim Rubel condemned the misinformation being spread by bot groups and opportunists targeting BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. They also called upon the public to remain vigilant in the lead-up to the election.
