Awami League leaders and activists allegedly blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Faridpur for five hours today, police said.
They were seen wielding lethal weapons and setting logs and tyres on fire as part of the party's "Dhaka Lockdown" programme.
During the blockade, traffic were disrupted from 6:30am to 11:30am at several points in Bhanga upazila.
After the blockade was lifted, activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD), captured Arifur Rahman Pathik Talukdar, assistant office secretary of Nagarkanda Upazila Awami League and former chairman of Char Jashordi Union Parishad, from Suyadi Bus Stand area and handed him over to the Bhanga police station.
Bhanga OC Ashraf Hossain confirmed, "The Awami League leader was handed over by Chhatra Dal activists. We'll decide under which case he'll be shown arrested."
