Three people have died after being beaten by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft in Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha.

The incident occurred late Saturday night (1 November) in Nasirabad village of Katabari Union.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station Bulbul Islam confirmed the matter.

The OC said that around 2:30 am, three individuals were stealing three cows from a cowshed in Nasirabad village. When locals noticed, they chased the suspects, who jumped into a roadside pond to save their lives. They were caught by the villagers and severely beaten. Two of them died at the scene.

Upon receiving the news, police arrived in the morning and rescued the third suspect in critical condition, sending him to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, where he later died during treatment.

Locals claimed that all three deceased were members of an organized cattle theft gang from Shibganj Upazila of neighboring Bogura district.

The OC added that the bodies are currently at Gobindaganj police station. Their identities are yet to be confirmed. Once identified, the bodies will be sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The incident will be thoroughly investigated, and legal action will be taken accordingly.
