Bangladesh suffer 14-run defeat as Windies seal T20I series

Bangladesh suffered a 14-run defeat against West Indies in the second T20 International of the three-match series at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday, handing the visitors an unassailable 2-0 lead. The final match will be played on October 31.

Chasing 150, the Tigers struggled to build on promising starts and eventually finished on 135 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Bangladesh lost Saif Hassan early, but a steady 35-run stand between Liton Das (23 off 17) and Tanzid Hasan Tamim kept the scoreboard ticking. Tanzid continued to anchor the innings, forming partnerships with Towhid Hridoy (12 off 14) and Jaker Ali (17 off 18), but wickets at crucial moments halted the momentum.

Tanzid’s well-crafted 61 off 48 balls gave Bangladesh hope, yet the lower order failed to come through as Shamim Hossain (1 off 2), Rishad Hossain (0 off 2), and Nasum Ahmed (2 off 3) fell cheaply. Despite the best efforts of Tanzim Hasan Sakib (8* off 6), the required runs proved too much in the closing stages.

Earlier, Bangladesh made a bright start with the ball after the West Indies opted to bat first. Taskin Ahmed struck in the second over to remove Brandon King, but a commanding 105-run partnership between Alick Athanaze and Shai Hope swung the momentum back. Both batters registered half-centuries — Athanaze scoring an aggressive 52 off 33 and Hope stabilizing the innings with 55.

Once the duo departed, the West Indies middle order faltered under pressure, managing only 149 for 9 as Bangladesh tightened their lines in the death overs. Mustafizur Rahman impressed with figures of 3 for 21, while Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed chipped in with two wickets each.
