Police have arrested a young woman for posting an abusive and derogatory video on Facebook targeting the historic July Uprising and its freedom fighters on Monday night (October 27), according to a press release issued by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) on Tuesday afternoon (October 28).

The arrested woman has been identified as Mifta Faiza (19), daughter of Mosharaf Hossain Chapol Sheikh of Dighapatia area, Natore Sadar Police Station. Police said she is an active member of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League.

According to police sources, Faiza was detained for posting a video on social media that contained offensive remarks against the July Movement and July Freedom Fighters at the July Memorial near the C&B Mor in Rajshahi city. In the video, she used vulgar language and made derogatory comments about the July uprising while displaying a photo of Sheikh Hasina and chanting “Joy Bangla.” The video was later uploaded as a Facebook Reel and quickly went viral.

Upon investigation of her Facebook and other social media accounts, police found that Faiza had been involved in activities conspiring against the unity, integrity, public safety, and sovereignty of the state. She had also shared multiple posts, photos, and videos supporting the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League, and reportedly managed several online groups via Telegram and WhatsApp to maintain internal communications among members.

Earlier, on October 25, a man named Tanvir Ahmed Sweet reported the incident to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB). Although DB police initially launched an operation to capture her, Faiza managed to escape. Later, on October 27, with the assistance of the Kakanhat Police Outpost under Godagari Police Station, she was finally arrested from Pakri Goalpara area.

During primary interrogation, Faiza confessed to being an active member of the banned organization. Police confirmed that a case has been filed against her under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Rajpara Police Station.
