The government has formed an investigation committee to determine the cause behind the detachment of a bearing pad from a metro rail pillar in Dhaka’s Farmgate area.
Adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Fouzul Kabir Khan confirmed the development to journalists on Sunday afternoon while visiting the body of the deceased youth at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Speaking to reporters, the adviser said, “A committee has been formed under the leadership of the secretary of the Bridges Division to investigate whether the incident was an act of sabotage or the result of a construction defect.”
The five-member committee includes a professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), a professor from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), an engineer from the Roads and Highways Department, and the project director of the Metro Rail Project.
Adviser Kabir also noted that the newly formed committee will review the findings of a previous investigation conducted after a similar incident last September, when another bearing pad fell off a metro rail pillar in the same area.
He added that appropriate measures will be taken based on the committee’s report once the investigation is complete.
