A student of Comilla University (CoU) and her mother were allegedly killed by suffocation at their residence. Initial reports suggest that the incident may have stemmed from a family dispute.
The victims were reportedly murdered at around 11:00 pm on Sunday, September 7.
The deceased student has been identified as Sumaiya Akter, a 16th batch student of the Department of Public Administration. Her mother was Tahmin Begum.
Police were informed of the incident around 11:00 pm on Sunday after the victim's brother dialed the emergency helpline 999. Law enforcement officers later recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue.
Speaking on the matter, Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohinul Islam said, 'We rushed to the spot after receiving the call. The bodies are now at the morgue. No official complaint has been lodged yet. We will take necessary steps after the investigation.'
Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Abdul Hakim, Proctor of Comilla University, stated, 'We will look into the matter thoroughly and then decide on the next steps.'
