At least three people were killed and five others injured when a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a canal in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur, on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 10 a.m. in front of Kafil Uddin Degree College. According to witnesses, a local bus operated by Ananda Paribahan was traveling from Noakhali when the driver lost control. The bus skidded off the road and fell into the Rahmatkhali canal, submerging passengers in water within moments.
Chandraganj Highway Police confirmed that three bodies were recovered. Two victims died at the scene, while another was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
At least five injured passengers were rushed to Noakhali General Hospital. Hospital authorities said some are in critical condition.
Locals alleged that the rescue operation was delayed. Fire service divers reportedly arrived nearly an hour after the crash. Rescue efforts later involved a joint team from the fire service, army, and police.
Traffic on the road was temporarily suspended but resumed after recovery operations.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
