We’ll neither support nor oppose any party in election: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the commission will neither work in favour of nor against any party in the upcoming elections.

“We will work for the 18 crore people of the country. Voting is not only a civic duty but also a matter of conscience,” he said.

The CEC made the remarks on Saturday morning while speaking to journalists in Rangpur.

“When the state, government, and political parties become one, everything collapses together,” said the CEC. “Public trust in the election system has eroded, and getting people to the polling stations is now a major challenge.”

Regarding misinformation on social media, Nasir Uddin expressed concern, noting that artificial intelligence (AI) is being used to spread misleading information. The Election Commission is actively working to combat this.

On issues caused by presiding officers in the last election, the CEC said action will be taken against those responsible. He assured that the Election Commission is making every effort to conduct the upcoming 13th general election transparently and smoothly.

“Although law and order is a major challenge in the current situation, the condition is expected to improve as the election approaches,” Nasir Uddin added.
