T-shirts with the monogram “Porshi Panthojoner Sokha” were distributed among van and rickshaw drivers with a special social initiative organized by Vin Golarodho in collaboration with Abhinoy Shilpi Shromik on Tuesday (29 July) at 3:30 PM across various parts of Panchagarh town.
Each t-shirt featured a thoughtful slogan: “Dear passenger, I will take you to your destination — please call me ‘Porshi’.”
This campaign aims to show respect to the often-neglected van and rickshaw pullers in society, and to promote dignity through the use of respectful terms rather than derogatory or dismissive language. The organizing group, Vin Golarodho, stated that such activities will continue in the future as part of their mission to foster social harmony and compassion.
Rickshaw puller Azhar expressed his joy, saying: “I’m very happy to receive this t-shirt. Thanks to Vin Golarodho. If organizations like this continue to support us, discrimination in society will surely decrease.”
Nasim, the founder of Vin Golarodho, who is a Boston-based journalist, cultural activist, and writer, remarked: “Rickshaw, van, and auto drivers are often socially looked down upon because of their profession. But they are an essential part of our community. We urge society to stop calling them disrespectful names like ‘Hey rickshaw’ or ‘Empty?’ — and instead call them by a respectful name like ‘Porshi’ (neighbor).”
Local workers and community members warmly welcomed the initiative and thanked both Vin Golarodho and Abhinoy Shilpi Shromik for this gesture of solidarity and respect.
