The Bangladesh Army launched an operation early Tuesday in the remote hill areas of Baghaichhari, Rangamati, targeting a hideout of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF).

During the raid, exchange of gunfire took place between army personnel and suspected UPDF members.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation resulted in the recovery of a cache of weapons and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle and other firearms. The military did not confirm any casualties but said the operation is ongoing.

The remote and rugged terrain of the area is known to be a hotspot for separatist activity, and law enforcement agencies have long suspected that armed groups use the region to store weapons and conduct operations.

The army continues to cordon off the area as part of an extended security sweep. More details are expected to be shared once the ongoing operation concludes.
