Border Security Force (BSF) detained three Bangladeshi youths while they were fishing at Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district.
The incident occurred late Thursday night at the Haripur border area near Lalarachak BOP under Sharifpur union of the upazila.
The detained individuals are identified as Sohag Mia, 23, son of Anu Mia from Sonjorpur village of the same union; Masuk Rahman Monturi, 20, son of Jalal Mia from Haripur village and Sipor Ahmad, 22, son of Toyeb Ali Daga Mia.
According to locals, the three were fishing in the Haripur area within the Bangladeshi side of the border. At that time, 15 to 20 BSF personnel reportedly crossed the border and apprehended them on suspicion of being smugglers, taking them into Indian territory.
Confirming the incident, Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Omar Faruk said that we received information through locals and the matter is being taken seriously.
When asked about the incident, Commanding Officer of 46 BGB (Sreemangal) Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria said he was not aware of the matter and had just heard about it.
