At least 20 people have been detained in Gopalganj following clashes centring a rally and procession organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP) on Wednesday.
The arrests were made during joint drives conducted from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, said Mir Md Sajedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.
He said the detainees have been handed over to the police station and legal action is underway against them.
The situation in the area remained tense on Thursday, with most shops in parts of the city—including Gatepara to the launch terminal—seen shuttered amid a 22-hour curfew imposed from Wednesday night.
Movement on the streets was limited, though some rickshaws, vans, and light vehicles were operating. Several police patrol teams were also deployed across the city to maintain order.
