Sreemangal Municipality announces budget of Tk 55.57 crore

The traditional Sreemangal Municipality, known as the tea capital and tourist town, has announced a budget of Tk 55.57 crore for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

The budget was announced in an open session at the municipality's Mohsin Auditorium on Tuesday (July 15, 2025) at 11:30 am.

The budget was announced by Sreemangal Municipality Administrator and Upazila Executive Officer Md. Islam Uddin. The municipality's Executive Engineer Md. Zahirul Islam delivered the welcome speech at the budget session.

In his welcome speech at the open budget announcement ceremony, the municipality's executive engineer, Md. Zahirul Islam, highlighted the various benefits of the municipality and its potential.

At the budget ceremony, Municipal Administrator Md. Islam Uddin said, "Most of the places in Sreemangal are still in the red zone in terms of sanitation. We want to work in those places. Since Sreemangal is a tourist-unspoiled area, we are thinking of doing more work on beautification of the town, public toilets and drainage system."

He said, "In this year's budget, the highest expenditure has been allocated for development, infrastructure and water supply sectors. In addition, various initiatives have been taken to eliminate waterlogging in the town. Our main task with all the officials of the municipality is to ensure citizen facilities and we are working towards that goal."

In the budget, the development sector's income is estimated at Tk 31.9 crore and the revenue sector's income is estimated at Tk 24.48 crore.

In addition, the establishment cost has been kept at 8 crore 10 lakh 18 thousand taka. Education cost 20 lakh, health and sanitation cost 2 crore 12 lakh. Tree planting and maintenance cost 5 lakh, National Day celebration and other 15 lakh. Water supply sector cost 2 crore 92 lakh 40 thousand taka, road lighting development cost 10 lakh, emergency relief sector cost 20 lakh, dengue, coronavirus and drain cleaning cost 1 crore 97 lakh, sports and culture cost 5 lakh 50 thousand, mutual learning and training cost 5 lakh, training cost for poor students cost 7 lakh, traffic congestion reduction and management cost in municipal areas cost 1.4 lakh and women development cost 3 lakh 50 thousand taka.

Municipal Administrator Md. Islam Uddin said that this budget has been prepared with the promise of building a modern, clean, and smart municipality.

This proposed budget includes special plans to improve the quality of citizen services, including the various developments of the municipality.

In his budget speech, the municipal administrator sought everyone's cooperation in implementing the proposed budget.

Present at the event were Municipality Secretary Mahbubul Alam Patwary, members of the Municipality Management Support Committee, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Cynthia Tasmin, Upazila Engineer Yusuf Hossain Khan, Social Welfare Officer Shoaib Hossain Chowdhury, Upazila Primary Education Officer Rafiqul Islam, Youth Development Officer Asim Kumar Kar and other officials of the Municipality. The budget session was moderated by Municipal Social Development Officer Md. Azizul Haque.

Other speakers at the budget ceremony included Ayan Chowdhury, headmaster of Sreemangal Victoria High School, Md. Yakub Ali, former general secretary of Upazila BNP and one of the members of the current Upazila BNP convening committee, and Shahin Ahmed, convener of the municipal BNP and business leader.

The budget ceremony was attended by officials from the municipal management committee and various government departments, media personnel, various political figures including BNP, business representatives, and the judiciary.
