Police have uncovered the main mystery of the murder case of Hridoy Ahmed Yasin, a much-discussed college student from Kakiachhara Tea Garden in Sreemangal. Two people involved in the incident were arrested and the towel, school bag, mobile phone and a motorcycle used in the murder were recovered.

Moulvibazar District Superintendent of Police M. K. H. Jahangir Hossain gave this information at a press conference organized by the district police on Monday (July 14, 2025) afternoon. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Noble Chakma, Officer-in-Charge of Sreemangal Police Station Md. Aminul Islam and others were also present at the time.

Superintendent of Police MKH Jahangir Hossain said that the deceased, Hridoy Ahmed Yasin (19), was a student of Class XI of Kamalganj Government College and worked as a WiFi operator in the Sreemangal Kalighat Road area. He was addicted to online gambling and got into debt for money borrowed from a friend. During the initial interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that the murder was committed due to a dispute over this.

Superintendent of Police Jahangir Hossain further said that on Monday morning, July 7, the locals found the body of Hridoy tied with a belt at the base of a tree in the Kakiachhara Tea Garden Section 1 area of Kalighat Union of Sreemangal Upazila and informed the police. The police went to the spot and recovered a body with a belt tied around its neck to a tree. After that, the body was identified through various investigations. Later, a case was filed against unknown accused at Sreemangal Police Station. Case No. 14, Section 302/201/34.

After the body was found, a special investigation team was formed under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Noble Chakma and Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sreemangal Circle) Anisur Rahman under the direction of the Superintendent of Police, led by Officer-in-Charge of Sreemangal Police Station Aminul Islam. The location of the two accused was identified based on the city's CCTV footage, IT analysis and secret information.

Later, a raid was conducted in Rajapur area of Brahmanbaria district under the leadership of SI Alok Bihari Gun and SI Md. Mohibur Rahman and two people were arrested. Based on their confessions, the towel used in the murder, school bag, victim's mobile phone and motorcycle were recovered.

Those arrested in the police operation are Md. Kajal Mia (20), a tom-tom driver by profession, permanent address Dariakandi, Kuliarchar, Kishoreganj, currently Shahibagh, Sreemangal, and Md. Sirajul Islam (21), a nut seller by profession, permanent address Rajapur, Sarail, Brahmanbaria; currently Shahibagh, Sreemangal. Both of them are drug addicts. They were produced before the court on Monday, July 14.

During interrogation of the arrested, it was revealed that Kajal owed about 22,000 taka to the victim Hridoy. Later, she was taken to Dhaka with the promise of a job, but the dispute escalated over the fact that she did not get the job and the money owed was not returned. The murder plan was hatched out of anger over these two issues.

On July 6, at around 11 pm, Kajal and Siraj took Hridoy to the tea garden as planned. At around 11:20 pm, Hridoy had an argument with Kajal and Siraj about their money in Section 1 of the Kakiachhara Tea Garden. At one point in the argument, a scuffle broke out. Then Kajal and Siraj took out a towel from their bags and strangled Hridoy. One of them held his hands and feet. When Hridoy was sure to die, they tied his pants belt around his neck and hung him from a tree as if he had committed suicide.

Then, around midnight, he took Hridoy's mobile phone and motorcycle to a shop named Morshed next to the Sakhina CNG pump on Habiganj Road. There, he sold the mobile phone for just Tk 250 and fled with the motorcycle to his grandmother's house in Rajapur village of Sarail police station in Brahmanbaria district.
