The private sector is the main driver of economic growth in Bangladesh, and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) is at its forefront. The FBCCI has been working continuously for a long time to develop trade and commerce in the country, and its current services are commendable. However, to keep up with the times, the FBCCI should improve and make its existing structure and services more effective. The main goal is not to create something new, but to make what already exists stronger, more modern, and member-centric.

Every business, from small entrepreneurs to large industrialists, needs various types of information, advice, and support during their business journey. The FBCCI, as a large organization, already operates information centers, expert advisory services, dispute resolution, and training programs.
Here's how the FBCCI can enhance its existing services to become a true "one-stop solution" for Bangladeshi businesses:
Information Center The FBCCI's information center is a very important service. To make it more effective, it can be reorganized as a modern, user-friendly online portal and mobile application where all information will be easily accessible. This should not be limited to government policies, laws, regulations, or customs information. It should also include economic indicators, detailed research reports of various sectors, market trends, investment opportunities, and the latest updates on international trade agreements. Additionally, there can be a system to provide personalized information and alerts based on members' business types and interests. For example, a garment manufacturer could receive direct notifications about new textile policies or export opportunities. To ensure easy access to information and transparency, regular online live Q&A sessions can be organized with experts and government officials.

Expert Advisory Services The FBCCI's expert advisory service is a great initiative and can be further expanded and diversified. It should not be limited to only legal or financial advice. An expert panel could be included for modern topics such as technological innovation, cyber security, environmental compliance, supply chain optimization, and international trade agreements. A well-organized mentorship program can be launched for new or emerging entrepreneurs by experienced businesspeople. Also, specialized workshops and consultation sessions should be organized for specific sectors like agricultural processing, IT, tourism, or fintech, which will help address the specific challenges of those sectors.

Dispute Resolution There is an opportunity to strengthen the FBCCI's arbitration and mediation center. Making the dispute resolution process faster and less expensive is essential so that businesses can avoid lengthy court procedures. Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) methods can be introduced in this regard. It is also important to introduce regular advanced training and skill development programs for mediators, in line with international standards, so that they can resolve more complex disputes. Extensive promotion of the benefits of this center is needed so that more businesses trust and are encouraged to use this service, which will strengthen business relationships.

Training and Skill Development The FBCCI's training and skill development programs are ongoing, and it is possible to make them more relevant and effective. Emphasis should be placed on developing modern technology-based skills such as e-commerce, digital marketing, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. Creating training modules that follow international standards, which will help local businesses compete in the global market, is also essential. Additionally, arranging online 'on-demand' training according to business people's time and needs, which will help them learn during their work, can be a timely addition.

Networking Events Above all, the FBCCI successfully organizes networking events, but it can be made more fruitful. A strong virtual networking platform should be created where businesspeople can connect with each other online and find potential business partners. It is also important to organize not just general trade fairs, but specific industry or theme-based conferences and events (e.g., green industry, fintech), which will create more targeted business relationships. Strengthening partnerships with Chambers of Commerce in various countries and international trade organizations will open new doors for Bangladeshi businesses to enter international markets and help attract foreign direct investment (FDI), boosting the country's economy.
